On Friday, January 25, I went with Katie Becker to shoot an interview for our Go Healthy FSC package. The package was about sunscreen and the importance of wearing it in the winter and we were going to talk to the Mary Kay employee that stemmed the entire package initially, Stacey. We drove out to her house and met her there and asked her a few questions and then we were finished. It turns out that our audio was not up to par however and Katie ended up going back out a few days later to redo the interview. This was pretty basic, nothing that I hadn't seen done, or done myself before, so there weren't really any surprises here. It did, however, show the importance of bringing headphones to a shoot to test the audio in advance. This was a half hour.

This morning I went to the shooting of the news show and observed. There were a lot of people there this day compared to others and for that reason, most were observing instead of getting involved, but that was definitely okay. I mostly observed Olivia working with the teleprompter because I was standing closest to her and able to see her the best. I learned how to control it and the best methods of how to keep it around the proper spot and how to adjust if it starts to get ahead or behind the anchor. This was one hour.
In addition to the news show shoot, I also took the yearbook photo for the news show crew. I got to experiment with a new angle by taking it from up above the crew. I think that the result came out pretty good. This was also one hour.
This Monday was also the day of our weekly meeting for Interlachen. Today we discussed a few new topics. We really need to get on the ball all around because our deadlines are approaching! The video deadline is in about two weeks now and the book itself is due in about a month. We discussed the shots that we still need, as well as video and copy, and told the rest of the staff how they can get involved in this last portion of production if they desire to get more involved. We also assigned new sports stories to highlight athletes and gave a deadline of February 14. This was one hour.

On Tuesday, January 29, I did a voiceover for the Go Healthy FSC package. Katie had written out the script for the voiceover and asked me if I wanted to record it. We recorded it the first time with a mic and the audio came out as a "whisper" (Katie's words). So I came back and re-recorded it on the camera mic and it came out better, but still not flawless. I'm not positive how we will fix it next time, but it definitely gave me an idea of the types of problems that can arise in a shoot. This was also my first reporting work at FSC, and my first experience since my freshman year of high school, and it helped me realize that it was difficult to get certain words out and I realized that I need to work on speaking slower and more clearly on camera. Overall the voiceover sounded okay in the end (in my opinion), but there is absolutely work to be done. This was a half hour.
TOTAL HOURS EARNED: 4 hours
